| PizzaExpress
and the Veneziana Trust |
25p is donated the Fund each time you go to a
Pizza Express restaurant and order a Pizza Veneziana.
This fantastic initiative has raised over £1
million for the Fund . Please keep eating Pizza
Veneziana at your favourite Pizza Express.
Peter Boizot, who founded the Pizza Express chain
in 1965, personally established the initiative and
invented Pizza Veneziana based on a medieval Venetian
recipe. Besides the usual ingredients of dough,
mozzarella and tomatoes it also contains onions,
sultanas, olives, capers and pine kernels.
The Chairman and Trustees are most grateful to Pizza
Express and the Veneziana Fund for maintaining their
generous support of the Fund’s conservation
work.
A generous grant from The Getty Foundation enabled
the Fund to publish 'The Science of Saving Venice'
by Dr Caroline Fletcher and Jane Da Mosto.
| Venice Simplon
- Orient-Express and Hotel Cipriani |
Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is a proud supporter
of Venice in Peril and the work the charity does
to help preserve the beautiful city of Venice. This
legendary train travels to and from Venice from
March to November each year bringing people from
all nationalities and walks of life to see this
fascinating city and enjoy its delights.
As far back as the early 20th century when Society
was first discovering the richness of Venice, the
Orient-Express was deemed the only way to arrive.
Today the distinctive blue and gold Wagons-Lits
carriages still trace their way across Europe from
London and Paris to re-create this golden age of
travel.
This strong connection encouraged VSOE to look
at how it could build its relationship with Venice
In Peril and offer long term support to the charity.
The result being that during the 2005 season for
every passenger booking a Venetian Overture itinerary
to Venice, Orient-Express donated £25 to the
Venice in Peril fund.
The total raised for the 2007 season was £13,920.
The money raised will be going towards the restoration
of the Armstrong Mitchell Crane in the Arsenale.
This is a unique project to protect an extremely
important piece of industrial archaeology. In Autumn
2007, a mobile hoist was used to survey the structure
from which a feasibility project will be drawn up.
Meanwhile the iron ballast container is being lightened
to avoid its rusted plates splitting.
