Lady Clarke named culture ambassador of the Regione del Veneto
Lady Clarke had been named amabassador for the culture of the Veneto region at an international workshop on tourism.A summary of other honours and awards recently received by Lady Clarke.
President of the Regione del Veneto, Luca Zaia, presented Lady Clarke with the award during a ceremony held at the Giorgio Cini Foundation on 1 July 2010. A number of committees were invited. The title was also intended as a tribute to her late husband Sir Ashley Clarke, founder of the Venice in Peril Fund.
In recognition of her many years of dedicated work towards the preservation of Venice, on 18 December 2010 Frances Clarke, co-president of Venice in Peril, was made an honorary member of the prestigious Istituto Veneto, founded by Napoleon in 1810.
In 2007 she was awarded an honorary DLitt by the University of Warwick, and in 2006 she was proclaimed 'Venetian of the year' by the Settemari Association. In 1996 she was made an honorary citizen of Venice by Mayor Massimo Cacciari.
On 17 October 2000, at the Palazzo del Quirinale in Rome, during an official royal visit to Italy, Her Majesty The Queen made her a Commander of the British Empire for her long-standing commitment to Venice and support of Italian culture in Britain.
