Venice in Peril News Update
From Jonathan Keates, Acting Chairman, Venice In Peril Fund:
Venice In Peril's activities continue as they have since its foundation in 1971, covering a broad range of initiatives for the benefit of Venice. Over the years we have promoted and financed a wide variety of restoration projects, we have funded bursaries for craftsmen and conservators (within the Unesco-Private Committees Joint Programme for Safeguarding Venice) and we have produced important publications on strategic issues for the city. Concerned both for Venice's public image and its survival as a living community, the Fund continues to draw on an immense resource of knowledge and experience in realizing its aims, profiting in this respect from collaboration with major local organizations and with the other private committees. We are enormously grateful for the support of our members, donors and well-wishers, both in Britain and in Venice itself. It is with much regret that Venice In Peril records the resignation, on 22 June, of Anna Somers Cocks, its remarkable and energetic chairman since 2000. The role of Acting Chairman has now been assumed by Jonathan Keates, a Venice In Peril trustee.
