Well done, Scavolini kitchens
Remember Venice in Peril's campaign in autumn 2010 against the mega-ads, signed by world famous figures in the art world? Mayor Orsoni accused us of being stupid and unaware of the problems the city faces (why does he think we been working on Venice for these past 40 years, one wonders?).
People power is beginning to prevail in the Serenissima, however. This month, May 2011, outspoken Venetian residents associations Venessia.com and 40XVenezia got the ear of Scavolini, kitchen manufacturers, who had put a huge image of one of their kitchens up on the Doge's Palace, and persuaded them to replace it with a plain reproduction of the building's façade and a simple message "We love Venice".
Three cheers, Scavolini, for your corporate broadmindedness and willingness to respect the residents associations' constructive criticism.
Mayor Orsoni has gone on to say that it was he who got the ads changed. This filmed conversation with two representatives of Scavolini proves that this is quite untrue.
