Trio from Venice swap gondolas for Decca record deal

1 February 2011, BBC News Entertainment & Arts

Three gondoliers from Venice have landed a record deal with Decca.

Luca Foffano, Michele Bozzato and Michael Malvich were selected to form the group when music executives set out to find the finest singers in the Italian city.

Dressed in traditional black and white costumes with red sashes and boaters, the gondoliers are more used to serenading people as their gondolas glide around Venice but now their voices can be heard in your living room as the trio release their first album on the 21st of March.

The trio spoke to BBC Radio 5 live Drive's Peter Allen and Aasmah Mir before performing O Sole Mio.
