Lido Cemetery, Gravestones, 1995-96

While the move to restore the gravestones was instigated by residents on the Lido, Venice in Peril was also very willing to look after British heritage. Gravestones of two British residents of Venice, Elizaeus Burges and John Murray, had been removed from their original place in the Protestant cemetery on the Lido following the expansion of the Lido airport in the 1970s. The gravestones were now cleaned and consolidated and set up along a path to the new section of the Catholic cemetery, together with those of other nationalities similarly restored.
