Torcello project starts as Appeal target reached
The Torcello Iconostasis Appeal, launched in November 2018, has now reached its target of £100,000. Donors gave to the appeal in memory of John Julius Norwich, author, historian and champion of Venice for so many years.
Scaffolding has been erected in the cathedral and work will start shortly to conserve the 12C stonework screen. The image beam with its 13 panel paintings has been dismantled and the panels will be conserved in Venice. This will be the lengthiest part of the project.
The project should complete in 2020.
Thank you to all those who have so generously supported the Appeal.
