Santa Maria di Nazareth (Scalzi), Organ, 2002

Following a generous donation from Martin Randall Travel after their Music Festival in Venice in 2000, Venice in Peril was able to assist with financing the completion of the restoration of the organ in the church of Santa Maria di Nazareth, known as the Scalzi. It is a fine two-manual organ built by Battista Sona in 1802, with an elaborately carved wooden organ loft. A thorough overhaul of the entire instrument was carried out; work included remedying inappropriate solutions introduced during previous restorations and other problems caused by damp, age and neglect.
