Please join us to launch the 10th edition of Venice for Pleasure, ‘the greatest guidebook to any city ever written’ now in its 60th year.

None of Venice’s innumerable chroniclers have portrayed the Serenissima’s character with quite such a combination of the scholarly, the informal and the intimate… Over the years, thousands of readers, starting this book, have been relieved to encounter its famously undemanding approach to the city: ‘Generally the first thing to do in Venice is to sit down and have some coffee’. But by the time they get to the end of it, all the same, they will have learnt virtually everything that an educated stranger needs to know about the place, its art and its history – besides being subtly entertained throughout.

It has been in print for sixty years, guiding pleasure seekers to corners of Venice that remain joyful secrets to this day. For this new edition published by Pallas Athene, not only have the walks been fully checked and revised – for even in Venice there is change to be noted – but all the illustrations have been renewed and produced in colour.

“My all time favourite guidebook” James Daunt of Daunt’s Travel Books.

“One of the most delightful and original guides ever written about this city – any city, for that matter” Jan Morris.

“The world’s best guide book” William Boyd in the Spectator.

You can pre-order your copy of the special anniversary edition below.

This event supports the Acqua Granda Appeal, commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the devasting 1966 floods in Venice.
