Protestant Cemetery, Isola San Michele

Many celebrated figures are buried in the the Protestant Cemetery on the island of San Michele including the founder of Venice in Peril, Sir Ashley Clarke. Venice in Peril supported the survey in 1995 and the establishment in 2014 of an international Association (ARECSM) to carry conservation maintenance plans forward.

Four ‘bozzetti’ or models by Antonio Canova including The Wrestlers, a Pieta, a figure of Apollo and a model for the tomb of Titian, underwent conservation in 2011.

The 18th-century tombstones of British ‘Ministers Resident’ in Venice were moved to the Catholic Cemetery on the Lido after the 1970s extension of the Lido Airport.
