Although many consider the collapse of the Republic in 1797 as a historical bookend, Venice in the 19th century underwent fascinating ecomonic and political changes, which were reflected in a vibrant artistic culture. This exhibition, ‘Venice in the 19th Century: A Century of Change’ brings together over twenty Venetian paintings of the 19th century which collectively tell the story of this restless period.
Charles Beddington, art scholar and dealer, will be in conversation with Jonathan Keates, author and historian, to share their expertise and insights into a turbulent period in Venetian history.
